The First Seoul Youth Creativity Summit & ccMixter Korea

Under the title of ‘Creativity Meets Life in Crisis', Seoul Youth Creativity Summit is on going in Seoul(from June 1 to 5). Started as an international symposium for educatiors and various exports around the globe to seek a better future of youth creativity education in 2008, the event has grown to an international annual event including various workshops designed to pump up creativity to the young minds. the festivial office said that they work to make the creativtity summit a festive place where participants can experience “connection and communication,” “participation and public ownership,” and “reciprocity and friendship.

Greatly, ccMixter Korea volunteer team has been preparing for a beatbox workshop at the festivial, targeting teenagers with little beatboxing experience as a part of the workshop programs. Even though it's not easy  for beatboxers and musicians to lead workshops with lay people and create a collaborative work within limited time, CC Korea volunteer musicans, DJjjanga and TKO did such a splendid job and presented great moments to all of the youth took part in the workshop. The piece of beatboxing work will be uploaded as remixed with CCL music sources to ccMixter Korea website(www.ccmixter.or.kr).

And all other mixter volunteers also did their best with such a great support and love for ccMixter. Not to lose this momentum, ccMixter Korea is planing to hold other multimedia creation workshops and redouble its promotion efforts to reach for musicians

What’s Up in Creative Commons Korea? | by 최영은 | 2009.06.01

We Come to Have CC Korea Developer Network!

Creative Commons Kroea can expect to have an army of competent developers and online service providers sharing CC values in Korea. That's because CC volunteer programmers has just formed an official developer network community. By doing so, they are to engage in preemptive efforts to build more CC licensed content-friendly environment in Korea.

When it comes to the use of CCL for their content licensing, Korean users are in the leading groups across the globe, greatly due to recent licensing policies of major domestic OSPs including Naver, Daum. But so far, it's only quantity-wise.

We can see great room for CC Korea to raise public perception among domestic CCL users on what they can expect to see with wider range of CCL option adoptations. Against this backdrop, members of CC Korea Developer Network are being involved in some projects, so that they can see more favorable technological conditions for a more various CCL uses. The projects are as followed:

1. Building a repository system for CCL content sponsored by the Korean government.

2. Organizing seminars on technical issues surrounding Creative Commons so as to help better understandings of the machine readable licensing expression among developers, OSPs as well as lay people.

3. Participating in CC Tech Summit, exchanging ideas and issues, In particular, they plans to do presentations at 2009 CC Tech Summit in Turin, Italy.

In an effort to do that, they had their first seminar as an event of CC Korea Open Seminar Series at Design Cluster Center  on 30 May, 2009. Around 30 attendees including software developers, online business people and users were present.

2009 Spring CC Korea New Volunteer Orientation | by cck | 2009.03.10

New Excitement, New Energy and New Face
- 2009 CC Korea Orientation for New Volunteer Candidates
< Various Collaborative Artworks by CC Memembers During the Orientation>

< Collaborative Artworks by CCK members during the Orientation>

Hello, CC commoners out there, Here in Seoul, CC Korea welcomed volunteer candidates by throwing orientation sessions over the last two Saturdays. From a restaurateur from other province to a cartoonist, 12 out of 17 applicants enthusiastically presented and made the event special. In particular, it was quite mutually inspiring to new comers and host volunteers.

< Sketch of the Orientation>

Above all, it was such a good icebreaker! Thanks to various attempts and programs by existing members, in particular, media artist, Seung Joon Choi, the ultimate doer in CC Korea, who introduced OST(Open Space Technology), drawing work reflecting SPT(Structure Preserving Transformation)concept to encourage participants to experience collaborative communication and sharing, those who took part in the sessions easily came to know each other and opened their hearts and minds.

At the same time, it worked as a cushioning zone for new candidates.  Judge Yoon, the project lead of CC Korea, kicked off the first session with his “updated” version of lecture having 101 CC values and the latest changes and shifts regarding CC at home and abroad. Other volunteers covered ongoing projects in CC Korea and shared their personal experiences and what they’ve found in CC volunteer activities to usher new volunteers.

< Lectures And Group Discussions>

Finally, it was really encouraging for each member of CC Korea since we could see some obvious hints of organizational evolution in running volunteer community system enhanced by intangible assets accumulated so far and collective effort of each of us.

Hope all the new candidates find their own joy and values in their future activities with CC Korea.

Creative Commons Asia Pacific 2009 in Malina | by cck | 2009.02.25

February 2009, the Creative Commons Asia Pacific 2009 conference was held in Manila and seven volunteers from Creative Commons Korea (CCK) participated in this event.

volunteers from Creative Commons Korea

It was a great opportunity that we learnt Creative Commons’ Projects of each country and discussed issues they faced. The future projects in Asia and Pacific region for spreading the Creative Commons idea were also introduced.

Creative Commons Philippine started the conference with a greeting as the host and introduced of current Creative Commons licensing projects in Philippine and future plans. In Philippine, there were many cases adopted Creative Commons license including educational materials and website, and research. Among, the case that the rice research center provided contents related with rice including research results and pictures.

The common thing with introduced CCL cases was found specific web sites such as government, education, culture and art unlike Korea which portals actively adopted CCL.

Even though the understanding of Creative Commons is low due to economical and cultural situation in Asia, it is obvious that the number of CCL licensed contents is rapidly increasing with various projects.

In this conference, CC Korea volunteers participated each session as a presenter or a moderator and introduced current status of CC Korea and CCL in Korea, past and future projects.

[License Usages in Philippine were introduced]

[Jong Eun Lee, Introducing  CC Korea Projects]

Audience showed the great interest about how CC Korea enthusiastically conducts many projects with the volunteers from various fields. Establishing CC Korea as independent corporation and its sole funding plan was also enough to attract enough to attract interest and drag questions from others.

[Mi Young Lee, Introducing CC Korea organization and future works]

CC Singapore revealed CC Statistics from the research result about the current usage of CC licenses. According to the research, Korea ranked first place of number of CCL licensed contents. However, the research also showed the low degree of freedom of contents in Korea compares to other countries. Most CCL licensed contents did not allow to others to use them for remix or reuse and a commercial purpose.

It tells us that we still need to put more efforts to introduce open culture to Korea despite of many past activities and unique projects.

In this conference, Asia and Pacific region agreed to publish a newsletter regularly and share information and knowhow on a website to share common issues and continue the network. A collaborative project of Asia and Pacific also discussed and agreed to develop a project for
collaborative creative and remix work using CC License to spread open culture and promote cultural exchanges.

Two days of the conference might be very tight schedule. However, it was a great time that we encourage each other and shared a common goal, open culture, even though we were from different cultures and used different languages.

With the great interest in CC Korea, Commons Asia Pacific 2010 is expected to be held in Korea.

[The gift from CC Philippine]

[Epilogue]

Philippine is the familiar country to Korea, and also it is the one of the countries supported South Korea by sending troops in the Korea War.

Philippine has very unique culture that they have a meal five times a day which originated from era of Spanish rule. We were always full during the conference

Because most Asian countries don’t use English commonly, participants talked in English with own unique accent. But it did not disturb at all when we discussed about issues we faced at.

Every
enthusiasm and passion that we watched during the conference touched our heart and let us realized the meaning of a Creative Commons volunteer and duty.
